The Golden State Warriors have been on a quest to reclaim their spot atop the NBA mountain with Stephen Curry leading the charge. After their 2022 championship triumph, the Warriors have struggled to return to the Western Conference Finals, with their most recent postseason ending in a second-round exit. However, a midseason move at the trade deadline proved to be a game-changer, propelling the team to new heights.
The acquisition of Jimmy Butler was the spark Golden State needed. Post-trade, the Warriors emerged as one of the league’s elite, excelling in advanced stats on both ends of the court. Their offense became more dynamic, and their defense tightened, making them a formidable force in the Western Conference.
As the offseason looms, the Warriors face pivotal decisions. Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted free agency and swirling trade rumors signal another transformative summer. Amid these changes, Warriors legend Baron Davis shared his insights on the team’s next steps in an exclusive interview with DJ Siddiqi of Basketball Insiders.
Davis pinpointed one critical area for improvement: frontcourt athleticism. “Their ceiling is really kind of the move that they make in the offseason to upgrade themselves athletically right in the front court,” he said. Specifically, Davis emphasized the need for a rebounding center to compete with dominant big men like Nikola Jokic and Naz Reid in the West.

“They needed some help, I would definitely say, rebounding,” Davis noted. “Steve Kerr said it himself. Draymond Green at the five the majority of the season kind of wore him out. I saw similar things. If they can get some support, that would really help.”
With Butler’s addition already proving to be a masterstroke, addressing the frontcourt could be the final piece to propel Golden State back to championship contention. As fans and analysts await the team’s offseason moves, Davis’s advice resonates: a strong, athletic rebounder might just be the secret weapon to unlock the Warriors’ full potential.
