IT’S OFFICIAL! Major announcement regarding William Nylander’s future with the Maple Leafs

In a significant update that will bring relief to Toronto Maple Leafs fans, William Nylander has made it crystal clear: he wants to stay in Toronto and be part of the team’s future.

Toronto Maple Leafs right wing William Nylander (88) celebrates after scoring a goal with Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Easton Cowan (53) during the third period against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.

According to reports from Jonas Siegel and James Mirtle, Nylander remains fully committed to the Maple Leafs despite the uncertainty surrounding the organization. With Auston Matthews sidelined and the team navigating a challenging season, the star winger has reaffirmed his desire to remain in blue and white.

Nylander, who is signed through the 2031-32 season with an $11.5 million cap hit, is not looking for a way out. Instead, he is positioning himself as one of the foundational pillars the franchise must build around moving forward.

Head coach Craig Berube has already been leaning heavily on Nylander in Matthews’ absence, and for good reason. The Swedish winger continues to be one of the team’s most dynamic players — excelling at puck transportation, generating controlled zone entries, and serving as a legitimate top-line threat who can tilt the ice in Toronto’s favor.

This commitment comes at a critical time. The Leafs sit at 32-30-13 through 75 games, with 235 goals scored and 264 allowed. While the season has been defined by injuries and inconsistency, Nylander’s stance sends a powerful message: he is ready to be part of the solution, not looking to escape the challenge.

His decision raises the stakes for the front office. With Brendan Pridham and Ryan Hardy currently steering the ship, the upcoming decisions — both in the short term and this summer — must focus on one clear priority: building a more dangerous and supportive top six around Nylander.

For the remainder of the season, expect head coach Berube to maximize Nylander’s impact with increased offensive-zone time and more power-play opportunities. Looking ahead to the offseason, the organization needs to add speed, finishing ability, and better roster construction to properly complement their committed star.
