BLUECO GETS A BOMBSHELL: Chelsea Star ‘Missing’ From Stamford Bridge Sheet & The Reason Will Worry Fans

Joao Pedro suffered a knock ahead of Chelsea’s crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, raising fresh concerns over the club’s attacking options at a pivotal stage of the season.

The Brazilian striker was notably absent from the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, joining right-back Malo Gusto and centre-back Levi Colwill on the sidelines in what represents a significant blow for the Blues.

While Gusto is understood to have sustained a minor injury in the build-up to the derby, Colwill’s absence was a precautionary measure. The 23-year-old England international, who only recently returned from a lengthy lay-off, was rested as part of a load management plan following an intense period of action.

Colwill tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on the first day of pre-season training in early August. His comeback has been managed carefully, with his first start in almost a year coming against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month, where he helped Chelsea salvage a valuable point. Just a week later, he started and completed the full 90 minutes of the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.

With only a short turnaround before facing Tottenham, Chelsea’s coaching staff opted against risking the Cobham graduate. Speaking at Cobham on Monday, assistant coach Calum McFarlane provided a positive update on the defender’s progress.

“Yeah, it’s been great to have Levi back. Great for English football as well,” McFarlane said. “I think we’ve got a really, really talented, really high-potential player here, and injuries are a part of it. He’s shown really good mental strength and character to come through that and perform away at Anfield and in an FA Cup final.

“So yeah, really, really excited about Levi. He’s added a lot to the team, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. So it’s been a brilliant two games for him, and hopefully he can finish the season strong.”

The absences come at a delicate moment for Chelsea. Having lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the FA Cup final, the Blues can now only secure European football for next season through their Premier League standing. McFarlane emphasised the team’s focus on the remaining fixtures.

“Yeah, we’re very, very focused,” he stated. “We need to win the next two games to give ourselves the best chance to finish as high up in the league as possible and get European football. That is our only focus.”

The assistant coach also addressed questions over the squad’s mentality, noting that recent performances have shown character under pressure. With a fiery London derby against Tottenham looming—where both sides have plenty to play for—McFarlane believes no additional motivation will be required.

“Everyone knows the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham, but ultimately, both teams have got a lot to play for,” he added. “We need six points from our next two games. I think they need a point to almost guarantee safety. So both teams are fighting… but we shouldn’t need to add any extra motivation. But it will naturally be there with a London derby.”

While Colwill’s rest appears precautionary and Gusto’s issue is described as minor, Joao Pedro’s knock introduces uncertainty into Chelsea’s forward line at a time when every point is critical. Fans will be watching closely for updates on the striker’s fitness ahead of what promises to be a high-stakes encounter against their London rivals.

The coming days will be telling as Chelsea push to climb the table and salvage what has been a challenging campaign.
