The Golden State Warriors are facing a critical offseason as they look to bolster their frontcourt, a persistent weakness despite their championship pedigree. With limited assets like Kevon Looney and Quentin Post, the Warriors have leaned heavily on small-ball lineups, a strategy that’s increasingly difficult to sustain. A blockbuster trade proposal could change that, with Golden State eyeing Cleveland Cavaliers star big man Jarrett Allen to anchor their frontcourt.
Heavy’s Adam Taylor reported on Sunday that the Warriors’ need for a talented center has been evident for years. “Steve Kerr can’t rely on his aging team to use its skill and speed to compensate for playing small,” Taylor noted. “Golden State’s easiest way to upgrade its big man rotation will be via trade.”
The proposed deal is ambitious: the Warriors would acquire Jarrett Allen and forward Dean Wade from Cleveland. In exchange, the Cavaliers would receive Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, Brandin Podziemski, and draft capital, while the Miami Heat would get Darius Garland and Moses Moody in a three-team trade.
Allen, despite an inconsistent postseason with Cleveland, brings a skill set that could transform Golden State’s lineup. A standout defensive rebounder, fluid rim runner, reliable lob threat, and strong low-post defender, Allen would allow Draymond Green to slide back to his natural power forward position. The 26-year-old Texas product averaged 13.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game in the 2024-25 regular season, shooting an impressive 70.6% from the field across 82 games.
Parting with Buddy Hield, a key piece in the proposed trade, may not be as difficult as it seems. The former Philadelphia 76ers guard, known for his sharpshooting, started the season hot but faded, finishing with a 37% three-point shooting percentage. His inconsistency from beyond the arc suggests he’s not the reliable long-range threat Golden State needs.
Taylor’s trade proposal offers the Warriors a chance to address a glaring roster need while reshaping their rotation for a championship push. Allen’s $91 million contract reflects his value as a two-way big man, and pairing him with Green could restore Golden State’s defensive identity. As the offseason approaches, the Warriors should seriously consider this bold move to secure their frontcourt future.
