JUST ANNOUNCED! Lakers 22-time All-star REPLACED by 24-year-old Rockets wing! This is the MOST controversial trade in NBA history!

The Los Angeles Lakers are facing an uncertain future as LeBron James – the 41-year-old superstar, 22-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion – is nearing the end of his 23rd legendary season. Although “King James” has not yet officially announced his plans, Lakers management under GM Rob Pelinka has already begun compiling a list of replacement options to prepare for the post-LeBron era. The team is particularly in need of a young, versatile small forward to support Luka Dončić, the six-time All-Star.

In that context, one name is being strongly mentioned: Tari Eason, the rising 24-year-old wing of the Houston Rockets. According to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, Eason is the top candidate to replace LeBron if “King James” decides to become an unrestricted free agent in the 2026 summer offseason.

“We’d love to see Eason get more offensive opportunities. Most of his time in Houston he’s just standing in the corner waiting for the ball,” Swartz wrote. “He would be an immediate starter for the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets or Los Angeles Lakers if LeBron James leaves as a free agent.

At 6-foot-8 (approximately 2.03m), Eason has emerged as one of the most promising three-and-D wings in the NBA this season. He is shooting a career-high 40.2% from beyond the three-point line (on 4.6 attempts per game) while maintaining an impressively versatile defense with a defensive rating of just 111. This combination of improved long-range shooting and elite defensive versatility has helped the Rockets post a 39-24 record, placing them 4th in the Western Conference after 63 games.

Eason is entering the final year of his contract and will become a restricted free agent this summer. He is clearly aiming for a big contract from any team that believes in his long-term potential. For the Lakers, acquiring Eason via sign-and-trade is considered highly feasible: the team could use Jarred Vanderbilt’s $11.6 million salary along with other assets to match contracts, landing a player with legitimate All-Defensive Team upside.

Eason joining the Lakers would create a dynamic young wing duo alongside Dončić. He would bring elite-level defense while also developing into a potent offensive threat if given more touches – something he has rarely received in Houston, where he is often stationed in the corner.

Whether LeBron James chooses to stay, retire or move on, the Lakers clearly need a long-term solution at small forward. Tari Eason is not just a replacement option; he represents a strategic move that could keep the Lakers competitive in the Western Conference for years to come.

The 2026 summer offseason promises to be extremely active for the Lakers. If the Eason deal materializes, it could mark a pivotal moment in the generational transition at Crypto.com Arena. Lakers fans and analysts alike are eagerly waiting to see whether Rob Pelinka will seize this opportunity.
