Luka Doncic fueled by ‘humiliation’ to improve his body and conditioning

Fueled by criticism over his conditioning after being traded from Dallas, Luka Doncic has embraced a transformative offseason to reshape his body and silence doubts.

Photos of a noticeably slimmer Luka Doncic began making the rounds online this past week, with the Slovenian star even sharing some himself on Instagram—including workout shots in which he has been seen wearing Los Angeles Lakers gear.

While it’s too early to say whether Luka is already in peak shape or simply wearing a flattering shirt, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times offered this insight:

“There were people in his camp who felt as though he was in store for a big offseason because of the humiliation he felt in the discussions about his work ethic and conditioning after he was traded from Dallas,” Woike wrote.

Lakers fans are now hoping this version of Doncic can carry the load alongside LeBron James, who remains a model of elite conditioning, and as the team eyes a serious title run next season.

According to SportKlub, the 26-year-old Doncic returned to his hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia, just four days after the LA Lakers’ season ended. There, he’s laser-focused on transforming his body.

“Doncic has focused on reshaping his body in Ljubljana—so far, without basketball,” the report says. “This includes guided conditioning sessions in the gym and a revised diet.”

With FIBA EuroBasket 2025 getting underway in late August, the Lakers should expect a fully engaged Doncic when he returns to Los Angeles.
