Mysterious G League Standout Set for Warriors Tryout – Bonus Worth Up to $85,300

In a move that has sparked intrigue among NBA fans, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly set to sign free agent guard Taevion Kinsey, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. While details of the contract remain undisclosed, sources suggest it’s likely an Exhibit 10 deal for training camp—a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for both the player and the team.

If the deal materializes as expected, Kinsey could be in line for a bonus of up to $85,300, provided he’s waived before the regular season and spends at least 60 days with the Warriors’ G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. Exhibit 10 contracts also offer the tantalizing possibility of being converted into a two-way deal, though the Warriors’ two open two-way slots may already have contenders, as speculated recently.

Kinsey, a 25-year-old shooting guard, is no stranger to the grind of professional basketball. Undrafted in 2023 after a stellar college career at Marshall, where he earned the prestigious Sun Belt Player of the Year title as a “super senior” in 2022/23, Kinsey holds the distinction of being the Thunder Herd’s all-time leading scorer. His scoring prowess and versatility have made him a standout in the G League, even if an NBA regular-season debut has remained elusive.

Over the past two seasons, Kinsey has been a consistent performer for the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz’s G League affiliate. In the 2024/25 season, he averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal per game across 50 appearances, shooting an impressive .525/.327/.662 in 33.8 minutes per contest. The prior year, in 2023/24, he posted 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals on .555/.427/.780 shooting in 29.6 minutes per game. His ability to contribute across the stat sheet, combined with his efficiency, has kept him on the radar of NBA scouts.

Kinsey’s journey has been one of persistence. He signed Exhibit 10 deals with the Jazz in each of the last two offseasons, only to be waived before securing a roster spot. He briefly joined Utah on a 10-day contract in March 2024 and spent about a month on a two-way deal last summer, but his NBA breakthrough is still on the horizon. Now, with a fresh opportunity in Golden State, Kinsey has a chance to showcase his skills in one of the league’s most competitive environments.

Adding to his growing reputation, Kinsey was recently named to the G League United roster, set to compete in the prestigious FIBA Intercontinental Cup in September. This international stage could further elevate his profile as he vies for a permanent spot in the NBA.

For the Warriors, signing Kinsey is a strategic move to bolster their depth with a player who brings scoring, playmaking, and defensive hustle. Whether he secures a two-way contract or earns his bonus in Santa Cruz, Kinsey’s journey is one to watch as he aims to turn his G League success into an NBA dream.
