The Golden State Warriors are in full-throttle pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, but with every superstar chase comes the harsh reality of Plan B. For Dub Nation, one of the most tantalizing fallback options has been a reunion with former champion Andrew Wiggins — now lighting it up with the Miami Heat.

The idea made perfect sense on paper: bring back the 2014 No. 1 overall pick who thrived under Steve Kerr, delivered some of his career-best basketball in the Bay, and helped hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2022.
But in a crushing update, any hope of a Wiggins homecoming just got shut down — hard.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Golden State insiders are throwing ice-cold water on the notion. “The Warriors have been linked to other midtier players such as the Brooklyn Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. and Miami’s Andrew Wiggins,” Slater reported, “but team sources continue to throw cold water on those ideas. One team source said they haven’t and don’t plan to engage with Miami about a reunion with Wiggins.”
That’s a bombshell. No talks. No plans. No Wiggins return anytime soon.
The bigger picture is even more sobering. Slater added: “If the Warriors don’t acquire Antetokounmpo, there isn’t anyone on the current trade market who will force this level of asset aggression from them.”
Golden State has shown interest in New Orleans Pelicans sharpshooter Trey Murphy III, but the Pelicans’ front office has stonewalled every inquiry, unwilling to part with their young core. Other names have surfaced, yet nothing is moving the needle enough for the Warriors to empty the asset vault.
This latest revelation should light a fire under the Warriors’ front office: go all-in for Giannis — now. Missing out on the two-time MVP without a legitimate contingency plan could leave the franchise stuck in mediocrity for years.
Of course, the trade deadline is still fluid, and doors that seem slammed shut today can crack open tomorrow. A Wiggins reunion further down the line — maybe in the offseason or next year — isn’t completely off the table.
For now, though, the message from inside Chase Center is clear: Andrew Wiggins coming home this season? Don’t count on it. The Warriors’ championship hopes may ride entirely on landing the Greek Freak.
