The Miami Heat have finally snapped their longest winless streak in over a month, securing back-to-back victories without their All-Star center Bam Adebayo. With Bam sidelined the past two games due to back soreness, Miami defeated the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers, showing impressive resilience and depth.

Adebayo was blunt when asked about his availability for Monday’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets on December 29. “We’ll see tomorrow,” he said. “I don’t know.”
He admitted the soreness has been lingering “for a while” and reached a point where he could no longer play through it. When pressed on whether the injury affected his performance, Adebayo was honest: “I think it goes hand in hand. I’m not going to make an excuse for why shots aren’t falling because I was hurt … it’s just shots not falling.”
Head coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged that Adebayo “really needed this time” to recharge. “He was dealing with some issues because of overcompensation,” Spoelstra told the Miami Herald. Before sitting out, Bam had struggled, scoring under 10 points in two of his last four games.
The good news? Miami’s injury report is shrinking fast. With Pelle Larsson and Nikola Jovic recently returning, only Adebayo and Tyler Herro remain on the list—and both are expected back soon. The team is on the verge of being fully healthy for the first time all season.
Young Role Players Shine in Adebayo’s Absence
The Heat’s two straight wins have been powered by breakout performances from their young bigs:
Pelle Larsson averaged 18.5 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds over the last two games.Nikola Jovic posted 14.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 7 rebounds in the same span.
Jovic, in particular, has shown massive growth after a slow start. Through his first 21 games, his stats dipped across the board—but the past two outings have been a revelation. Spoelstra praised his potential: “We know how important he can be. How different we can look when he’s playing that style of basketball.”
Larsson has also been a consistent force. Miami is 7-1 in their last eight games when he starts and 11-3 when he plays over 26 minutes. Adebayo himself welcomed his return: “Obviously, Pelle has missed some time. So it’s good for him to be back in the rotation, feeling that good energy.”
With Adebayo’s status uncertain for the Nuggets game and the Heat showing they can win without him, Miami enters the final week of December with momentum. If the young core continues to step up and Bam returns healthy, the Heat could be a dangerous team in the second half of the season.
