Just months after escaping Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho’s nightmare continues — and now Chelsea have officially pulled the plug on his Stamford Bridge future.

The explosive young Argentine winger, who was forced out of Old Trafford after falling out with Ruben Amorim, joined Chelsea in a £40 million summer deal. At the time, it looked like a fresh start and a chance to revive his career under the bright lights of west London. Instead, less than a year later, Garnacho has been ruthlessly placed on the transfer list.
According to reliable journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are actively open to selling the 21-year-old and believe they can recoup close to the same £40 million fee they paid Manchester United. The Blues are showing zero sentiment — despite handing Garnacho a seven-year contract as part of their long-term squad-building strategy.
Garnacho has managed just eight goals in 37 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, with a dismal return of only one Premier League goal. While he has sparkled in cup ties — including scoring in the recent 7-0 thrashing of Port Vale — his league form has been bitterly disappointing: one goal and four assists in 20 outings.
Chelsea’s recruitment team reportedly feels the left-wing market was “dry” at the time of his signing and now admits to “some recruitment regrets.” The club also splashed out big on Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who has himself struggled with consistency (just one goal in 27 games), adding to the sense of frustration in the attacking department.
The arrival of highly-rated 18-year-old Portuguese talent Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP this summer for around £44 million is expected to further squeeze Garnacho’s minutes. With limited game time on the horizon, Chelsea appear far from desperate to keep the Argentina international.
This dramatic downturn has even damaged Garnacho’s international prospects. He was left out of Lionel Scaloni’s latest Argentina squad and now looks increasingly likely to miss out on the 2026 World Cup plans altogether.
Napoli showed strong interest in Garnacho before his move to Chelsea, but whether they — or any other club — will meet Chelsea’s ambitious asking price remains to be seen.
From being hyped as one of United’s brightest talents to being transfer-listed at both clubs in quick succession, Garnacho’s Premier League journey has taken a shocking turn.
The Argentine freak’s time at Old Trafford is ancient history — and it looks like his Chelsea chapter is about to slam shut even faster.
