With a 9-8 record confirming their expected step back without the injured Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics have identified a major weakness: the center position. As the trade deadline approaches, one name is emerging as a perfect fit to solve their frontcourt issues—Brooklyn Nets’ big man Nicolas Claxton.
The offseason departures of Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Luke Kornet have left a significant void in the middle for Boston. While Neemias Queta has held his own, the Celtics lack a long-term, high-impact anchor.

According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, Nicolas Claxton is the ideal target. He proposed a trade package where Boston would send Anfernee Simons, a 2026 second-round pick, and a top-5 protected 2027 first-round pick to Brooklyn for the athletic center.
“Claxton would immediately be the best interior anchor in Boston, essentially serving as a more skilled version of current starter Neemias Queta,” Buckley argued.
The numbers back up the fit. This season, Claxton is averaging a well-rounded 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting an efficient 56% from the field. His defensive versatility and offensive capability would provide an immediate upgrade.
This move isn’t just about salvaging the current season; it’s about preparing for Tatum’s return. Acquiring a 26-year-old center of Claxton’s caliber would solidify the Celtics’ frontline for both the present and future, giving them a much-needed defensive pillar to build around when their superstar is back on the court.
